Roger Ord

Roger Gillis ORD

Born in Cramlington in 1871, Roger first came to prominence with Middlesbrough Ironopolis where he gained a reputation as an agile and acrobatic goalkeeper.
Moving to Woolwich Arsenal in 1897 he was virtually ever present for two seasons but in his third campaign lost his place leading to him coming to Luton in 1900.
The Town paid a fee for his services but needed an experienced goalkeeper as they re-entered the Southern League. Roger soon became a terrace favourite playing behind a very ordinary team and was virtually ever present for two seasons before finishing his playing career at Wellingborough.
Roger passed away in Manchester in 1940.
