Darren Currie
Darren Currie Date of Birth: Nov 29, 1974 Share "Darren Currie" on FacebookMidfielder Darren Currie joined Luton in the summer of 2007 from Ipswich, going on to make 38 League and cup appearances in the subsequent season. The nephew of England player Tony Currie, he got off to a fine start at Kenilworth Road, putting the Hatters ahead on his debut in the opening game of 2007-8 at home to Hartlepool, neatly sidestepping his marker and curling an exquisite first-half goal.
The campaign ended with Luton relegated to the fourth tier after going into administration, and Darren, by then 33, was one of a number of players on long contracts offered a ‘free’ who initially held out for compensation. He eventually joined Chesterfield before seeing out his playing days at Borehamwood, Hendon and Dagenham & Redbridge.
A career that had started at West Ham and featured 15 clubs saw skilful Darren play just short of 700 first team games over a 20-year period. He moved into coaching with Barnet, Sheffield United and Southend.
