Drew Talbot

Drew Talbot Date of Birth: Jul 19, 1986

Versatile Drew Talbot won the hearts of Luton fans with his hard-running and committed displays during a two-year stint in a struggling side. He arrived in January 2007 from Sheffield Wednesday for a reported fee of £250,000 and was a regular until the end of a season in which the Hatters finished bottom of the Championship following Mike Newell’s departure as manager.

Talbot could play at full-back or in midfield, but often featured as a brave, workaholic front-runner who was unlucky only to manage three Luton goals in 2006-7. The following season he hit two Carling Cup goals and put in a five-star FA Cup display against Liverpool, but suffered a disastrous knee injury at Cheltenham that would sideline him for eight months.

With the Hatters cash-strapped and on their way to a third successive relegation, Talbot joined Chesterfield in early 2009, initially on loan, where he would go on to make more than 250 appearances. He eventually retired in the week of his 33rd birthday with a career total of more than 400 first team games. His Luton stay amounted to a sadly injury-reduced tally of 63 games and five goals.
