Paul Furlong

Paul Furlong Date of Birth: Oct 1, 1968

Experienced and powerfully-built striker Paul joined Luton in summer 2007 just a few weeks short of his 39th birthday, thus becoming the oldest debutant in Town’s history, taking the record from George Dodd. He went on to score 12 goals in 39 games in all competitions, a respectable tally in a side that was plummeting towards relegation.

He was very fit for his age, and Hatters fans feeling uncomfortable over the recruitment of a former Watford favourite were appeased when Paul quickly got among the goals. Gillingham and Sunderland were beaten at Kenilworth Road in the space of four days, Paul notching three of the Town’s six goals.

A North Londoner who started out at Enfield, he made more than 300 League appearances for Coventry, Watford, Chelsea and Birmingham before a long stint at QPR. His Luton goals took his overall League tally past the 200 mark, and he departed the Kenny along with many others in May 2008, later appearing for Southend and Barnet before finally hanging his boots up at the grand old age of 43.

Since retirement Paul has coached at various levels at his spiritual home QPR, where his Luton-born son Darnell followed his footsteps into the first team.
