Paul McVeigh

Paul McVeigh Date of Birth: Dec 6, 1977

Diminutive Belfast-born forward Paul McVeigh was one of a bumper batch of players to arrive at Luton during summer 2007. With 20 full caps for Northern Ireland to his name, he debuted in a 2-1 Carling Cup victory at Dagenham & Redbridge but despite a lively, bustling style that unsettled opposing defences, struggled to establish a regular place in the Hatters line-up.

He was often used as an impact sub during the successive relegation seasons between 2007 and 2009. He totalled 53 appearances in all competitions, 20 of them from the bench. Although he had chalked up 36 League goals at previous club Norwich, he was unlucky to only manage three at Luton. He played well over 200 games for the Canaries where he was a highly-popular figure, having joined them from Tottenham in 2000. He had a second stint at Norwich after leaving Kenilworth Road, helping them win the League One title in 2009-10.

After leaving the game Paul studied for a masters degree in sports psychology and launched a brand new career for himself - giving keynote speeches and coaching sessions about motivation and competitiveness to people from the business world. He has also published several books, among them ‘The Stupid Footballer Is Dead: Insights into the Mind of a Professional Footballer.’
