Southwick born George signed professional forms for the Hatters just before the outbreak of the war whilst still a teenager and built up his experience guesting for several London teams during the hostilities as well as turning out for the Town.

A sound goalkeeper, George was the Town’s acknowledged number one at the start of the first post-war season but was then called up for overseas service in the Army. By the time of his return George found that Bernard Streten had made the goalkeeping position his own so he had to be content with reserve team football.

A move to Bournemouth was accepted in 1949 and from there on he went to Guildford, Snowdown CW and Ramsgate. George passed away in 1988.
