John Dunn

John was born in Eccles in 1888 and joined Leeds City in 1913 where he failed to make a League start.

He joined Luton in 1914 and soon formed a good full-back partnership with local boy Dick Elvey with the robust defender not averse to playing ball and man according to reports.

Released from the Army during the Great War for ‘more important work’ in Liverpool he guested for Everton and returned to Kenilworth Road in 1919 where he resumed his partnership with Elvey.

Refusing a new contract in 1920 he joined Sheffield Wednesday for £600 but after a bright start was relegated to the reserves. In 1921 he was forced to retire from the game following a knee operation and received £800 compensation from the League fund.
