Thomas Clifford

Thomas CLIFFORD

Born in Kilburnie in 1874, Thomas was playing local football when he was spotted by Newton Heath. He did not settle in Manchester so returned to Scotland to turn out for Ayr.
Another call from England then came and he enjoyed two seasons in the Football League with Glossop North End before coming to Luton in 1900.
A centre-half, he played most of his games as a half-back racking up 31 appearances in 1900-01 before returning to Scotland at the season’s end.
Thomas died in Aquitaine, France in 1917 while serving with the 7th Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.
