Billy Agnew

William (Billy) AGNEW

Born in Pollockshaws in 1898, Billy was signed from Arthurlie, a Scottish second division side, in December 1925 following a trial. He had previously turned out for Ayr and Falkirk as well as having a spell at Port Vale.
A sturdily built forward, he netted seven goals in 23 starts in 1925-26, including two in the 5-0 home thumping of Watford, but found things more difficult in the following season and like many Scots of the period migrated to the USA where he played for the unlikely sounding Providence Clamdiggers.
