Bjorn Runstrom

Bjorn Runstrom Date of Birth: Mar 1, 1984

Lanky Swedish centre-forward Runstrom arrived on loan from top-flight Fulham in the spring of 2007. Manager Mike Newell was keen to increase the fire-power of a Luton side plummeting down the Championship table due to a run of just three wins in 21 games. The 23-year-old Runstrom hit the net twice in eight Hatters appearances, in a 2-3 home defeat by
Norwich and a 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday a week later.

After two months at Kenilworth Road his return to Craven Cottage coincided with Kevin Blackwell’s arrival to replace the sacked Newell, and reported allegations that Runstrom had made derogatory remarks about the club on a website.

Born in Stockholm, Runstrom had played at top level in Italy as well as his Swedish homeland before Fulham paid £700,000 for him in summer 2006. He was given precious few opportunities to impress before returning to continental Europe to join Kaiserslautern for a season. After appearances at various Scandinavian clubs and a spell in the USA he called time on his career just after his 29th birthday.
