Ernie Cockle Date of Birth: Sep 12, 1896 Share "Ernie Cockle" on FacebookBorn in East Ham in 1896, Ernie signed on for Clapton Orient at the end of the Great War but could not win a regular spot in the team so moved on to Maidstone where his goalscoring exploits earned a call from Arsenal.
Again, unable to earn a first team slot, despite banging in the goals for the reserves, he came to Luton in 1924 but after only seven games and one goal he was off to Northampton in a double transfer with Ralph Hoten.
At the County Ground he scored 46 goals in 97 starts and was nearly as prolific at his next port of call – Wigan Borough.
Ernie wound down his career at Guildford City and passed away in Thornton Heath in 1966.
