Harry Higginbotham
Harry Higginbotham Date of Birth: Jul 27, 1894 Share "Harry Higginbotham" on FacebookBorn in Australia in 1894 to Scottish parents the family returned to Scotland when Harry was a boy and after playing local junior football in Glasgow joined the ground staff at St Mirren.
The Great War interrupted his career but on demobilisation he had a short spell at South Shields before being successful in a trial at Luton in March 1920.
As a clever inside-right he formed the perfect foil for ace goalscorer Ernie Simms and remained a regular in the side for three seasons with the Town back in the Football League and proved a good taker of chances in his own right following the departure of Simms.
Always angling for a move to a higher level he finally got his wish with a move to Clapton Orient in 1923 but he failed to replicate his Luton form there nor in subsequent moves to Nelson and Reading.
Forced to retire from the game in 1925 following the diagnosis of sleeping sickness he returned to Scotland and passed away in Glasgow in 1950.
