Henry 'Harry' Abbott

Henry (Harry) ABBOTT

Born in Preston in 1897, Henry was one of the most consistent goalkeepers in Division Three North with Nelson but was encouraged to come to Luton in 1927.
Not tall for a goalkeeper; at 5”9”; he was very agile and although it took him time to settle, he went to make fifty consecutive appearances in the League and five in the F A Cup; keeping fifteen clean sheets. He lost his place after a 5-0 defeat at Southend United, and never played for the Town again.
After leaving Luton he joined Exeter City and eventually turned out for Rochdale until the age of 36. Henry passed away in 1968.
