James Ashton

James ASHTON

Born in Barking in 1888, James was a schoolboy star in East London where his potential was spotted by Charles Green who brought him to Luton in January 1911.
Made captain of the reserves, he showed a good reading of the game from his position of left-back and was good in the air but lacked speed and strength so was unable to displace Ted Potts from the first team.
After only two Southern League appearances (in 1911-12) he returned to East London and played for Barking.
