Joe Johnson

Joseph Johnson Date of Birth: Mar 9, 1895

Born in Stamford in 1895, Joe first came to prominence at Notts County but it was at Watford, who he joined in 1920, where he gained regular first team football.

A ‘classy’ full-back he enjoyed four years at Vicarage Road before he was reluctantly sold to Luton in June 1924 for £75. After a reasonable start to 1924-25 he was dropped after a poor performance in a 0-0 home draw with Aberdare and it was while playing for the reserves that he sustained a career ending injury.

He received £300 from the FA Benevolent Fund before passing away in Watford in 1948.
