John Jack

John Jack Date of Birth: Sep 9, 1871

Born in Edinburgh in 1871, John was playing for Leith Athletic when, like a great many other Scots, he was enticed south by the prospect of being paid for playing competitive football when the Southern League was formed in 1894.

After a trial, he replaced Bill Prentice at outside left and remained ever present for the remainder of the 1894-95 season. With the prospect of losing his place to George Ekins at the start of the following campaign he was tried in goal for three games but failed to shine and departed for Tottenham.
