Syd Thompson

Sydney Thompson

Born in Wallsend in 1892, Syd had played for local sides before being picked up by Bradford City in 1910. A ball-playing centre-half he did not make the grade at Valley Parade, making only one League appearance, so moved to Luton in the summer of 1912.

Soon converted to wing-half at Kenilworth Road where his passing and dribbling skills came to the fore he had a reasonable season in a disappointing campaign for the club, their first in Southern League Division Two.

In a major cull at the season’s end, Syd was one of those leaving, moving to Ponypridd.
