Thomas Timothy Tierney

Born in Northwich in 1875, Tommy had turned out for a number of clubs including Blackburn and New Brighton Tower in a good early start to his career.

With the Town back in the Southern League in 1900 a complete overhaul of the playing side was made and nine players were brought in including Tommy who the club remembered from the 4-1 home thrashing by New Brighton Tower the previous season.

After two games, Tommy was injured and was out of the side for four months but once fit he proved to be a very clever inside-forward weighing in with some important goals. Retained for a second season he was virtually ever-present but a bid from League club Gainsborough in the summer of 1902 proved too good to turn down.

His stay at Gainsborough was not long and he then embarked on a tour of minor clubs in England and Glentoran in Ireland before hanging up his boots at Chorley to concentrate on his profession as a bricklayer.
