Robert Macfarlane

Born in Wallsend in 1892, Robert played for various clubs in the North-East before being picked up by Everton. Sadly, the promise of work to enable him to complete his apprenticeship as a blacksmith did not transpire and he returned home.

Apprenticeship completed, he came to Luton in the summer of 1914 from Hebburn Argyle with the reputation as a free-scoring winger and although netting on his debut failed to impress in his next four games and lost his place to Hugh Roberts.

Returning to the North-East he joined the Royal Artillery during the Great War.
