His displays on the left wing alerted the Town and he signed in August 1933 before netting four goals in his first eight starts with his career seemingly set fair. Unfortunately, an injury suffered at Exeter kept him out of the side for a long spell and by the time of his return he became surplus to requirements and returned to the north-east to play for West Stanley.
