We have been very fortunate to receive a donation of Fred’s medals awarded during his time with the club which was mainly in the Victorian era. Our thanks go to his grandson John Howard for the kind and thoughtful donation.

Frederick (Fred) ALLEN Born in Luton in 1875, Fred played for local side Luton Terriers where he was regarded as a ‘shining light’ with ‘accurate heading, clever passing and tackling sending spectators into raptures.’ This led to him joining the Town in 1892.

Fred became a regular in the side with a respectable scoring tally but left for St Albans in 1895 after the Town’s first season in the new Southern League. He came back in 1902 for a spell but mostly played for the Town’s reserve side.

Fred passed away in Eltham in 1963.
