Michael McGiven Date of Birth: Feb 7, 1951 Share "Mick McGiven" on FacebookThough Newcastle-born, Mick McGiven started his career as a boy at Sunderland and made 113 appearances, becoming an England under-23 international while at Roker Park. A move to West Ham followed but hampered by injuries he moved into coaching at only 26, serving as assistant to John Lyall and then spending time as a youth team coach at Chelsea.
He re-united with Lyall at Ipswich and helped the Tractor Boys win promotion to the Premier League in 1994, then moved to Luton as assistant to Terry Westley after the latters appointment in summer 1995. However, he was sacked, along with Westley, in December of the same year after a miserable start to the season.
He returned to Chelsea later in his career and served in a number of coaching roles, retiring in October 2018.
