08/11/2025 STOCKPORT COUNTY 0-3 LUTON TOWN
Hatters cruise to victory at Stockport
Richards, Bramall and Jones on target while Keeley saves penalty in superb away performance
Jack Wilshere’s magnificent Hatters made it four wins in a row in all competitions with a superb 3-0 win at league leaders Stockport.
The Town needed to weather an early storm from the in-form hosts but two goals in five minutes put the Hatters in control as Jake Richards bundled home his first goal in Luton colours before Cohen Bramall doubled the lead with a stunning free-kick.
It got better after the break as Josh Keeley saved brilliantly from Nathan Lowe’s penalty to keep County out and 13 minutes later Isaiah Jones sealed another Hatters victory with his first goal of the season.
The result moves the Town to within six points of County at the top of the table but it was the hosts that had dominated the ball up until the Hatters’ opener.
Showing just one change to the side that beat Forest Green last Friday, with Mads Andersen coming into central defence, the Hatters needed to stand tall in the opening half-hour.
Lamine Fanne blocked a shot from Callum Camps in the fourth minute before Andersen then threw himself into the face of a fierce drive from Jack Diamond.
As the hosts, who came into the game unbeaten in their past seven league games, continued to press, Lowe blazed high over the bar on 18 minutes and the same player came even closer four minutes later when he was denied by the legs of Keeley from close range.
Stockport were within a whisker of opening the scoring again on 25 minutes only for Kyle Wootton to miss the target after Keeley had got a finger on a left-wing cross.
But the Town’s defensive solidity was impressive and captain Kal Naismith’s fine intervention thwarted Lowe with the striker ready to pull the trigger on 28 minutes.
The Hatters’ forward forays had been few and far between but with the speed of wing-backs Bramall and Jones there would always be chances and so it proved on 34 minutes.
Bramall sped down the left and delivered a low cross to Richards lurking at the near post and the 18-year-old got ahead of his man to divert the ball home for his first in Town colours to make it 1-0.
The Hatters fans were still celebrating that opener four minutes later when Bramall went from creator to scorer to double their lead. Jones weaved his way down the right to win a free-kick on the edge of the box and Bramall stepped up and curled a wonderful effort into the far corner.
Shellshocked, County almost pulled one back when Wootton nodded over from eight yards but the Town almost added a third before the break. Firstly, Nahki Wells saw a goal-bound effort blocked by Connolly before home goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe palmed away a fierce shot from Wells after the striker had shot clear of the home defence.
But after the restart you knew the Town would need to dig in to prevent a goal to give Stockport hope.
And the hosts spurned the chance to do so on 55 minutes when Keeley saved Lowe’s penalty, plunging wonderfully to his right, after Jones had upended Odin Bailey in the box.
The miss knocked the stuffing out of the hosts and on 69 minutes it was game over when Richards brilliantly created the third, racing down the right to thread Jones through who fired past Hinchcliffe.
“3-0 to the real Hatters” was the chant from the packed away end who then celebrated another fine stop from Keeley, this time the goalkeeper producing a finger-tip save to divert the ball to safety following Malik Mothersille’s cross.
The hosts could not catch a break and with nine minutes left County were reduced to 10 men when Owen Dodgson was shown a second yellow card for a foul on substitute Gideon Kodua.
With more space opening up the Town had chances for further goals in the closing stages as Fanne and another substitute, Ali Al-Hamadi, going close to making it 4-0.
However, the final word went to Teden Mengi. After a week that had seen him receive racial abuse on social media, the Town defender produced an inch-perfect tackle in the final minute to deny Wootton which earned the biggest cheer of the afternoon.
“We’ve got our Luton back” sung the happy Hatters fans at the end of a dramatic and fruitful journey to a ground in which Hatters teams are now unbeaten in eight visits.
Up to ninth, six points off the top. All it takes it a bit of momentum.

League One: Stockport County 0 Luton Town 3
Hatters take their chances to earn stunning win at League One leaders
Luton laid a real statement of intent down as they roared to a superb 3-0 victory at League One leaders Stockport County to record their fourth successive victory for the first time in five years this afternoon.
Going into the contest, the hosts sat at the top of the table, on a four-game winning run themselves and unbeaten in front of their own fans since August 19, but they were defeated by a clinical visiting side who finally found their touch in front of goal. Make no mistake, this wasn’t a walk in the park for Town though, as they were under the pump for large parts of the first half only to lead 2-0 through Jake Richards and Cohen Bramall and were then indebted to a penalty save from Josh Keeley early in the second period, before they were able to ease home once Izzy Jones had made it 3-0 with 20 minutes to play.
The visiting Hatters made one change to the side that beat Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup, Mads Andersen replacing Nigel Lonwijk, Town switching to three at the back, the Dane slotting into the centre, with Teden Mengi right and Kal Namsith left. Boss Jack Wilshere also opted to operate with wingbacks, which saw Jones head to the right and Cohen Bramall on the left, but the hosts made a fast start to the contest, Callum Camps’ goalbound volley seeing Lamine Fanne crucially get his head in the way and deflect behind for a corner.
The set-piece then led to another opportunity, Callum Connolly putting his free header over the top, while some sparkling play by Jack Diamond on the right led to a shooting opportunity that Andersen did well to block. Town were playing some crisp passing moves of their own at times, getting into some promising positions, George Saville with a cross cut out, although the visitors continued to look far from sound defensively, one long ball leaving Nathan Lowe in the clear, the forward volleying waywardly.
Jones then showed his explosive pace on the right hand side, knocking the ball beyond Owen Dodgson and sprinting beyond him, the County left back booked for his foul. Dodgson then showed why the Hatters were reportedly interested in him during the summer, threading an excellent pass through the Town back-line which saw Lowe escape a slipping Andersen, his poked attempt repelled by the legs of Keeley.
Luton’s stopper was called upon again midway through the half, getting a glove on Owen Moxon’s tantalising cross to divert the ball against Kyle Wootton as it bounced fortuitously wide. Naismith then made a superb tackle on Lowe as County continued their dominance, Town fortunate to see their clean sheet remaining intact.
Despite the hosts having the better of things, Town then rocked them by opening the scoring on 34 minutes as Naismith did brilliantly on the left to get through a couple of challenges and send Bramall away who looked up and crossed for Richards to dive in and almost tackle the ball into the net for his first goal for the club.
It got even better for Wilshere’s side just four minutes later when Bramall did it all on his own, stepping up to take a free kick some 20 yards out, placing his set-piece beyond the despairing dive of Hinchliffe and into the net to double Town’s lead. While Luton were clinical, the hosts still struggled, Wootton putting a header over at the back post.
Town should really have a third when Jones found Richards who put Wells clean through, but his powerfully struck drive was palmed behind by Hinchliffe. Still County threatened before the break with the impressive Stoke City loanee Lowe causing huge problems as he shrugged off Naismith but then stretching, could only stab over the bar as Keeley came out.
After the interval, Luton couldn't have the control they desired, Saville teed up by Wells to drag disappointingly wide of the target from outside the box. County then had a superb chance to halve the deficit on 55 minutes when Jones stepped across Odin Bailey in the area for a penalty that saw Lowe assume responsibility.
However, Keeley, who had starred at Edgeley Park last term when on loan for Leyton Orient in a penalty shootout play-off semi-final success, guessed correctly, throwing himself to his right to make a fine stop, which sent the away end into bedlam. He also prevented Wootton pulling one back, as the Hatters were in dreamland on 69 minutes, with a terrifically worked goal started by Mengi’s pass up the right.
It was dummied by Richards, who was able to spin away from his man, advance upfield and then find Jones who hammered first time beyond Hinchliffe for his first goal of the season. Town still had work to do though, Malik Mothersille’s cross flicking off the head of Wells and drawing a full-length fingertip save from Keeley who was having a fine day in front of the Luton fans.
The hosts were then down to 10 men for the final nine minutes when Dodgson pulled down substitute Gideon Kodua who was away and could have no complaints about being shown his second yellow, trudging down the tunnel for an early bath. Fanne’ low shot was saved by Hinchliffe, as Luton brought on both Ali Al-Hamadi and Jerry Yates, with Al-Hamadi through on the angle only to see his attempt turned behind by a covering defender. Mengi then produced a marvellous sliding challenge before taking the plaudits from the visiting fans, who were soon able to celebrate a wonderful away triumph with their players and management staff.

Wilshere hails 'clinical' Luton display after a brilliant 3-0 win at Stockport
Town overturn league leaders at Edgeley Park
Luton boss Jack Wilshere hailed his side’s ‘clinical’ approach in front of goal as they sent a message to the rest of the division when winning 3-0 at leaders Stockport County this afternoon.
The Hatters went into the game on the back of a three game winning run, but were up against a home side, who had won four in a row themselves to sit at the summit. Town were under the cosh for large parts of the first half but although County created a number of chances, Josh Keeley was only really called into action once, denying Nathan Lowe, as both he and fellow attacker Kyle Wootton couldn’t locate the target with their other opportunities.
That wasn’t the case for the visiting Hatters though, Jake Richards opening the scoring when turning in Cohen Bramall’s cross on 34 minutes, with Bramall then sending a superb free kick beyond keeper Ben Hinchliffe four minutes later. Although Nahki Wells was denied when he went clean through, the second period saw Keeley come to the fore, with a terrific penalty save from Lowe, and then keeping out Malke Mothersille’s deflected cross as well.
At the other end, Richards sent Izzy Jones through to make it 3-0, as from Luton's eight shots, six were on target. while the hosts had 13, but only three that tested Keeley. It saw Wilshere’s side climb a place to ninth, and now trail top spot by just six points, as asked if it was a statement victory from his side, the Hatters chief said: “I think probably externally yes as we’ve come to the top of the league, we know it’s going to be difficult, we win the game and keep a clean sheet, but we know where we’re at, we know there’s another game next week and none of this matters if we don’t continue to work in the same way.
"I still feel we have to find more consistency, but you’re starting to see things now and more importantly, more than anything, I loved the way we suffered, I love the way we stuck together. We faced some tough moments in the first half, which you’re going to do, especially when you come to the top of the league away from home. They’re top of the league for a reason, they’ve got some dangerous players, especially on the front line, big players who make it difficult for you, but we defended those moments outstandingly and then were clinical.
“What I'm starting to learn about this league is you can limit those moments, but it's going to be very difficult as they play direct. If you try and press them a little bit more they can put it over you and then you have to try and win the second balls and win the first contacts. It will happen where you’ll give moments away and then you need big moments from your goalie and you need big tackles and we certainly have that. We just have to now go back to training and keep working the way we have, keep working on things that we see in the game and keep the energy as that’s what brings the spirit, the energy and the fight, as the players were excellent.”
