Abe Jones

Abraham Jones Date of Birth: Sep 17, 1874

Born in Tipton in 1875, Abe was a footballing veteran with over 240 League appearances to his name spread between West Brom and Middlesbrough and was regarded as a marquee signing when he came to the Town in the summer of 1906.

A centre-half, who at only 5’7” made up for his lack of height with good anticipation and speed, was a mainstay of the side for four seasons, skippering the team on occasions to take the pressure off Bob Hawkes.

He decided to hang up his boots in 1910, feeling that at 35 it was best to quit at the top.

Abe passed away in 1942.
