Alan Garner

Alan Garner Date of Birth: Feb 2, 1951

Although signing for Millwall in 1969, Alan was frustrated to make only two League appearances for the Lions in two years.

A skilful central defender with a tremendous long throw, Alan was trailed by Luton scout Harry Haslam who was surprised to get his man for free in 1971. Alan, though, had to wait patiently until Chris Nicholl was transferred to Aston Villa the following March .

Ever present during the Hatters promotion season of 1973/74, Alan was unfortunate to lose his place to the young Paul Futcher during the following campaign and moved to Watford where he made 200 appearances in a Hornets side moving up through the divisions.

After spells at Portsmouth, Chesham, Barnet and Barton Rovers, Alan ran a local window business and worked at Luton airport before sadly passing away in July 2020.
