Alec Ashworth

Alec Ashworth Date of Birth: Oct 1, 1939

Everton reserve Alec jumped at the chance to come to Kenilworth Road as part of the deal that took Billy Bingham to Goodison Park in 1960.

Immediately setting up a fine understanding with ace Luton marksman Gordon Turner the duo scored goals for fun and it was disappointing when Alec asked for a transfer over the summer of 1962.

Joining Northampton of Division Three it came as no surprise when he banged in the goals that earned the Cobblers immediate promotion. He than accepted a move to Preston in 1963, picking up an F.A.Cup runners-up medal in his first season.

A knee injury brought an early end to his League career before his untimely death at only 55.
