Alec Smeaton
Alec Smeaton Date of Birth: Sep 27, 1900 Share "Alec Smeaton" on FacebookBorn in South Shields in 1900, Alec played local football in the north-east as well as working as a coal-miner before moving to the professional ranks with Bristol Rovers in 1923.
He moved to Halifax two years later where he converted from inside-forward to wing-half and was far more successful. His next stop was Torquay, who he skippered, before coming to Luton in the summer of 1929.
Signed as back-up for the three half-back positions he found first team appearances hard to come by and made only six starts. Said to be strong, fearless and constructive he was unlucky in that he could not find his way ahead of Clark, Fulton and Fraser.
Leaving Luton after one season Alec had a short spell at Gillingham where he fared little better.
Alec passed away in Yatesbury in 1956.
