Alex Lawless

Alex Lawless Date of Birth: Mar 26, 1985

Alex joined Luton from York City in November 2010, initially on a loan deal that was made permanent for an undisclosed fee in January 2011. The Tonypandy born midfielder arrived with plenty of non-league experience at Forest Green Rovers as well as York, and he made his mark early on with the winning goal away at Altrincham in his second appearance for Luton. His final goal of the campaign was a stunning 35-yard effort at Wrexham in the first leg of the play-off semi final, but sadly his final contribution of the campaign was missing a penalty in the shoot-out in the final against AFC Wimbledon.

Some sporadic top performances followed in 2011-12, but 2012-13 was a significant campaign for Lawless. He was named Luton’s Player of the Year that season and wrote himself into folklore by scoring the only goal in the FA Cup 3rd Round match at home to Championship Wolverhampton Wanderers. Alex then went on to make 31 appearances in 2013-14, scoring 6 times as Luton stormed to the Blue Square Premier title. He would score on his league debut for Luton at home to Southend United the following season, and departed the club as a player in the summer of 2016 to play for Yoevil, Leyton Orient and Ebbsfleet United before retiring and embarking on coaching at Leyton Orient, before returning as an under-18’s coach in 2022, later becoming Lead Under-18s coach in 2023.
