Alwyn McGuffie

Alwyn Scott McGuffie Date of Birth: Apr 13, 1937

Spotted by ex-Hatter Charlie Watkins, Alwyn was enticed away from Queen of the South as a 16 year old and after initially playing on an amateur basis signed professional forms for the Town in September 1954.

A clever, ball playing wing half great things were expected of Alwyn after he made a promising League debut in 1956 but he never quite fulfilled his early promise due to his perceived lack of defensive qualities.

After National Service in the army and with the Town’s fall from the top flight, Alwyn was picked more frequently and when given a place in the forward line showed an eye for goal. Alwyn finally left Kenilworth Road in 1964 and ran a sports/toy shop in Marsh Road for many years but returned to Scotland and passed away in 2015.
