Born in Romford in 1881, Arthur was a well known amateur in Essex non-League circles turning out for both his home town club and Ilford before signing a short term contract for the Town in August 1907.
Arthur found the step up to the professional game difficult and after three games at centre-forward with little success his contract was not renewed and he returned to Romford.
