Barry Butlin

Barry Butlin Date of Birth: Nov 9, 1949

Unable to stake a claim to a regular spot in Derby County’s Division One side, Barry was tempted to Luton in November 1972. Amazingly the £50,000 fee was a record for the Rams at the time!

Although his first season was cut short by knee injury he top scored in 1973/74 as the Hatters won promotion to the top flight. Brilliant in the air and no slouch on the ground it came as a major shock when ‘Bullet’ was sold to Nottingham Forest for £122,000 in October 1974 with the Town desperate for goals at the time.

Barry played for a variety of clubs after leaving Forest but was never quite so prolific as in his days at Luton. He is now the secretary for the ex-Derby County Players Association.
