Barry Hawkes

Barry followed big brother Ken down from the north-east, signing on for Luton in 1955 but then had to wait almost four years, with National Service getting in the way, before winning his first team debut on the left wing against Manchester United in 1959.

Better known as a ball playing inside forward, Barry managed eight first team starts before being allowed to move to Darlington in 1960 and then to Hartlepools a year later.

After a broken leg ended his professional career he worked for a wholesale greengrocery company for many years. Now retired, Barry lives in Peterlee.
