Benjamin Nicholson

Born in Ashington in 1884, Ben was playing local football as a centre-half when he was spotted by Newcastle who converted him to left-back.

Although a regular in the Newcastle reserve side he only made one first team appearance so jumped at the chance to join the Town in the summer of 1907.

Sadly, it did not get any better at Kenilworth Road as he was unable to unseat Bill McCurdy from the left-back position and after just three appearances the unhappy Ben went back to the north-east with West Stanley at the season’s end.
