Bert Davies

Bert Albert Davies Date of Birth: Mar 1, 1894

Born in Swindon in 1894, Bert joined his local club at 17 before signing professional forms in 1913. After breaking into the Robins side as a quick and clever left winger, he failed to agree terms in 1914 and went to Middlesbrough but returned at the end of the Great War.

Virtually ever present for the next seven years, and at one stage close to an England call-up he suffered injuries towards the end of his stay at the County Ground and was released in 1927 and joined the Town..

Now lacking the speed he once possessed he made only four appearances in 1927-28 before leaving the professional game.

Bert later became trainer, assistant manager and assistant secretary at Swindon before retiring in 1963. Bert passed away in Swindon in 1976.
