Bert Dawes

Bert Albert Dawes Date of Birth: Apr 23, 1907

Born in Frimley Green, Surrey in 1907, Bert was a natural goalscorer who joined the Town in December 1936 as the final piece in the jigsaw with the club pushing for promotion from Division Three (South).

Banging in 157 goals for Northampton and Crystal Palace between 1929 and 1936 the brave forward, who was equally good in the air as on the ground, attracted a record fee paid by the club and helped the Town to Division Two as well as enjoying international trials for England.

In the following season he found goals a little harder to come by although he had still scored a respectable 11 when he moved back to Palace in February 1938.

Joining Aldershot at the outbreak of War, Bert then guested for a variety of London clubs combined with the role of Metropolitan policeman.

Albert, who was also a gifted middle order batsman who turned out for Northants seconds, passed away in Goring in 1973.
