Bill Burtenshaw
Bill William Burtenshaw Date of Birth: Dec 13, 1925 Share "Bill Burtenshaw" on FacebookYounger by three years than Charlie, and five inches taller, Bill came to Luton on the recommendations of his brother over the summer of 1948 and was immediately thrust into the first team on the opening day of the 1948/49 campaign.
Sadly, the powerful inside forward did not make any further first team appearances for the Hatters but finished up as leading scorer for the reserves in his first season. The triple transfer of the two Burtenshaws and Billy Collins to Gillingham was big news at the time but the deal ensured that the Gills were treated seriously enough to be re-elected to the Football League in 1950.
Bill stayed in Gillingham after retiring from the game and spent over 30 years fixing meters for Seeboard. Bill passed away in 2013.
