Bill Dolman

Humphrey William Dolman Date of Birth: Aug 30, 1906

Born in Bloxwich in 1903, Bill was working as a furnaceman and playing local football as a goalkeeper when he was spotted by Chesterfield in 1928 and after establishing himself in the side went on to win a Division Three North Championship medal with them.

A spell at Bristol City followed before he joined the Town in February 1936 as competition for Joe Coen. The big, fearless keeper did more than compete with Coen as he succeeded in taking over from him for long spells, including the majority of the Division Three South championship winning season of 1936-37, right up until just before the War.

An accomplished table-tennis player and expert pigeon fancier, Bill passed away in Canada in 1964.
