Bill Jennings
Bill William Jennings Date of Birth: Feb 25, 1891 Share "Bill Jennings" on FacebookBorn in Cinderhill, Notts in 1891, Bill was a robust, powerful wing or centre-half who first came to notice with Notts County who he helped win the Division Two championship in 1914.
Four years in the army took a chunk out of his career and on the cessation of hostilities he had a season at Norwich followed by two at Merthyr, where he was captain, before coming to Luton in the summer of 1922.
After a slow start, he became a mainstay in the Luton defence and was regarded as a ‘giant’ at 6 foot. Skipper for his last two seasons he finally lost his place in December 1925 following a 5-1 defeat at Bristol City. At nearly 35 he was not content to sit in the reserves so moved on quickly to Northampton followed by spells at Peterborough and in Canada with Hearts of Winnipeg before retiring.
Bill passed away in Luton in 1953.
