Bill McCurdy

William McCurdy Date of Birth: Sep 4, 1876

Born in Bridgeton, Scotland in 1876, Bill was turning out for Vale of Clyde when bigger clubs started looking at the fast, clever full-back.

He decided, though, to join his former team-mate John Brock at Luton and was virtually ever-present in his first season of 1899-00 in a poor side that was to drop out of the Football League. The cash-strapped Town accepted a bid of £500 from Nottingham Forest in February 1901 but he was mainly an understudy at the City Ground and after spells at New Brompton and Tottenham returned to Luton in 1905.

For the next five years the veteran full-back was a mainstay in the Luton defence and by the time he retired from the game in 1910 he had played over 250 first team games for the Town.

Bill retired to Nottingham where he ran a grocery store.
