Billy Taylor

Billy William Taylor Date of Birth: Jun 3, 1938

Billy started out his goalkeeping career with St Johnstone in 1958 and won a Scottish Second Division championship medal with them in 1963. Two years later he won another Second Division medal, this time with Stirling Albion, before joining Partick Thistle.

Luton manager Allan Brown was desperate to sign another goalkeeper, preferably Scottish, to provide competition for Tony Read and with Taylor out of favour at Partick following an injury, the big shot-stopper signed for the Hatters in December 1967.

An injury to Read gave Taylor an immediate chance in the Town’s Division Four side but he was never able to win a permanent place in the team and after six appearances in two years he joined Epping Town.

Billy worked at Luton Airport for many years until retirement.
