In terms of Football League clubs, Billy had most success with Exeter but it was from Merthyr that he signed for the Town in February 1929. A clever inside-forward, he was only given three chances over the remainder of the 1928-29 campaign but did score two goals including one in a 2-2 draw at home to Watford on his debut.
Declining a new contract at the end of that season he went back to the Midlands and remained in non-League for the remainder of his career and passed away in Walsall in 1976.
