Bob Hacking

An amateur with Blackburn during the War, Bob was later in the R.A.F. stationed in the south and guested for the Hatters for whom he signed professional forms in April 1945 at the age of 27.

He managed only one League appearance for the Town before being recruited by Brighton for £500 in 1947 and then on to Southport a year later.

At Haigh Avenue he moved back to wing-half from inside-forward and quickly became a crowd favourite due to his clever ball skills and managed to play on until 1954 before retiring from the game to become a market gardener.

Bob continued to live in the Southport area until his death in 2001.
