Brian Lewis

Brian Lewis Date of Birth: Jan 26, 1943

Starting off with Crystal Palace in 1960, Brian soon made a name for himself as a clever midfielder and inside forward and it was not long before he made the step up to Portsmouth in Division Two and then on to Coventry with whom he scored their first goal in the top flight in 1967.

Finding himself out of the Sky Blues side, Brian amazingly accepted a £35,000 move to Luton in 1968 just as the Hatters had won promotion from Division Four. Becoming an instant crowd favourite Brian top scored over the 1968/69 season, won countless penalties with gamesmanship and saw four opposition players sent off for retaliation!

New manager Alec Stock was not so keen and moved him on to Oxford and from there he went to Colchester, with whom he starred in the famous F.A.Cup win over Leeds, before finishing his League career back at Portsmouth.

Brian sadly died from cancer at age 55 in 1998.
