Brian Whitby

Luton born Brian played for the Bedfordshire Youth team and Vauxhall Motors before joining the Hatters as an amateur and then signing part-time professional forms in May 1957 whilst continuing to work at the car factory.

A fast and two-footed winger, Brian made his League debut for the Town at Newcastle in March 1958, scoring in a 2-3 defeat, and kept his place for the remainder of the season. The signing of Billy Bingham by Luton that summer effectively ended his career at Kenilworth Road as he made only one more first-team appearance before throwing in his lot with Bedford in 1960.

After spells with St Neots and Milton Keynes, Brian hung up his boots to concentrate fully on his job with Vauxhall before using his skills in a sales environment. He still lives in the town in retirement.
