Calvin Andrew

Calvin Hyden Andrew Date of Birth: Dec 19, 1986

Striker Calvin Andrew was born in Luton and came through the youth system ranks at Kenilworth Road signing professional terms on the 25th September 2004. Just three days later he made his professional debut against Swansea City in the LDV Vans Trophy, before making his League debut as a substitute at Brentford in December 2004. In total he played 11 games as Luton Town were crowned League 1 Champions. Calvin then spent the first half of the 2005/06 season on loan at Grimsby Town, scoring his first League goal against Barnet, before joining Bristol City on loan for the second half of the season, before a knee injury curtailed his playing time at just three games in the West Country so Calvin returned to Luton for his rehab. Finishing the season by coming on as a substitute at Plymouth and securing a win with his first Luton goal in a 2-1 victory.

A knee injury kept Calvin sidelined for most of the ill-fated 2006/07 Championship season, returning in March, featuring seven times at the end of the season, and even scoring a goal in a rare win that season, a 3-1 victory of Southend at Roots Hall. Calvin was more of a mainstay in the 2007/08 season, making 48 appearances for the Hatters in all competitions both starts and off the bench, scoring 4 goals, before financial issues hit Luton Town in the off season before the 2008/09 season, and Calvin moved to Neil Warnock’s Crystal Palace who were plying their trade in Championship, for a fee in the region of £80,000. Calvin had scored 6 goals in a total of 67 games for Luton Town.

Calvin started his career well at Crystal Palace before falling down the pecking order, before being sent out on loan to Brighton, Swindon, Millwall and Leyton Orient. Before permanent transfers to Port Vale, Mansfield, York, Rochdale, where he made 190 appearances, before finishing his professional career at Barrow in 2021, making in total 397 career appearances and scoring 39 goals. Since retiring, Calvin has moved into Broadcast Journalism, as a match reporter for BBC Squad Goals.
