Carlos Edwards

Carlos Edwards Date of Birth: Oct 24, 1978

Born in Diego Martin, Trinidad, Carlos started his professional career playing for local sides on the island of Trinidad, starting out at Patna United, Queens’ Park CC before moving to Defence Force. During a Wrexham trip, he was identified for trial alongside Hector Sam and Dennis Lawrence. The Trinidadian trio were a hit at Wrexham, helping them get promoted to Division Two, notching a spot in the PFA Division Three Team of the Year due to his 10 goals from right wing, before helping Wrexham to a mid table finish the following year, grabbing a further 5 goals during the 2003/04 season. Injury kept him out for the majority of the 2004/05 season, although he played during Wrexhams’ 2005 Football League Trophy triumph, he would leave on a Bosman transfer upon the end of his contract, joining Luton ahead of the 2005/06 season.

Carlos became an instant hit with the Luton Town fans, making his debut during a hard fought scoreless draw against Leeds United. After a full season, Carlos won the Young Members Player of the Year award, notching two fine goals, in 45 appearances on the right wing for the Hatters. Carlos started the 2006/07 season in very fine form, scoring 6 goals in just 26 appearances for Luton Town. This drew the attention of many scouts to watch his performances, before he made a switch to Sunderland for £1.5 million at the beginning of the January transfer window, his last appearance coming in a scoreless draw against Cardiff City at Kenilworth Road.

Carlos went on to be a hit at Sunderland, scoring the goal that secured their promotion to the Premier League. After three more seasons at Sunderland, he fell out of favour, moving to Wolves on loan, before a permanent transfer to Ipswich Town, followed by a move to Millwall. Since leaving Millwall, Carlos briefly moved back to Trinidad to play for local sides Ma Pau and Central FC, before moving back to England to play for Woodbridge Town, signing dual registration forms so he could play for Bury Town when Woodbridge were not playing. Carlos then moved to Hadleigh United in the 9th Tier of the English Football pyramid, still pulling his boots on at the age of 45, whilst mixing his play time with youth coaching in the Ipswich academy.
