Charlie Burtenshaw
Charles Edward Burtenshaw Born: 16th October 1922 From: Share "Charlie Burtenshaw" on FacebookAfter breaking scoring records with his local side, Southwick, Charlie was snapped up by Luton Town in January 1948 but had to wait over a year before making his first team debut at home to Barnsley.
Charlie then enjoyed a good run in the side, mainly on the wing as he was deemed too small to play up front, but was then surprisingly transferred to non-League Gillingham in October 1949 along with his brother Bill and Billy Collins for a joint fee of £10,000.
The three players then moved en bloc to Snowdown Colliery Welfare in 1953 where Charlie became player-manager.
After hanging up his boots Charlie returned to his native Portslade and was working for Metal Box on his retirement. Charlie passed away in Brighton in 2010.
