Charles Ford Date of Birth: Mar 4, 1878 Share "Charlie Ford" on FacebookBorn in Stirling in 1878, Charlie starred for Arbroath as a fast and clever wing-half who attracted the attentions of Sunderland but he refused to sign until he had completed his apprenticeship as a pattern maker.
He was eventually persuaded by his elder brother, Bill, to sign on with the Town in September 1898 where he became a mainstay in midfield in this, the club’s second season in the Football League.
With Bill agitating to leave after one season, Charlie also wanted away and ended up joining Reading.
