Charlie Preedy Date of Birth: Jan 11, 1900 Share "Charlie Preedy" on FacebookBorn in India in 1900, Charlie moved to the Eltham area as a child and after playing football locally was picked up by Charlton where he enjoyed five seasons as a showy, sometimes reckless goalkeeper who was also a good shot stopper.
Surprisingly released to Wigan in 1928, he starred as the Latics narrowly failed to win promotion with his performances attracting Arsenal for whom he signed in 1929.
In three years at Highbury, Charlie made only 37 League appearances but did turn out in the Gunners victorious FA Cup winning side at Wembley in 1930.
After a season at Bristol Rovers he came to Luton in the summer of 1934 but after starting the first five games was replaced by Joe Coen. At the end of that season he signed for Margate before hanging up his gloves and going back to his previous occupation as a taxi-driver.
After retiring to East Anglia, Charlie passed away in Lakenheath in 1978.
