Claude Banes

Claude Banes Date of Birth: Jul 1, 1904

Bedfordshire boy who was born in Beeston in 1904, Claude played a number of years for

Biggleswade Town before his goalkeeping prowess caught the eye of the Town’s scouts.

Signing for Luton in January 1929 he immediately replaced Henry Abbott and remained ever present for the remainder of that season. Over the next two campaigns he shared goalkeeping duties with George Harford but the signing of Jim Imrie in 1931 meant that he suddenly became third choice and went back to Biggleswade Town and resumed his former trade as a market gardener.

Claude passed away in Sandy in 1977.
